The Unicollege 3As Academic Model (Acquire, Apply, Amplify) is the University's institutional framework for teaching and learning. Developed by the Office of Academic Affairs in collaboration with faculty members, researchers, and educational scholars, the model reflects pedagogical research, classroom observation, and the continuous assessment of learning outcomes across both degree-seeking and study abroad students. It establishes a shared academic philosophy that guides curriculum design, course development, and experiential learning throughout the University.
The framework is articulated through three interconnected dimensions. Acquire establishes the intellectual foundations of a discipline through lectures, seminars, guided readings, and critical discussion, providing students with the theoretical and methodological tools necessary for advanced study. Apply transforms knowledge into active scholarship through faculty-supervised research projects, analytical writing, presentations, case studies, and other forms of structured academic inquiry that strengthen critical thinking and independent analysis. Amplify extends learning beyond the classroom through carefully designed academic experiences that connect students with the environments in which knowledge is produced and experienced, including museums, cultural institutions, public organizations, businesses, research centers, and heritage sites. These experiences are not extracurricular activities but integral components of the curriculum, directly connected to course objectives and learning outcomes.
The value of this approach becomes particularly evident in disciplines where place and context are essential to academic understanding. In an Art History course, for example, students develop a rigorous foundation in artistic movements, historical contexts, and methods of visual analysis before examining works within the museums, monuments, and urban landscapes for which they were originally conceived. Faculty-guided engagement with places such as the Uffizi Galleries, Florence Cathedral, or the historic fabric of Renaissance cities allows students to interpret artistic production within its architectural, political, and cultural context, enriching classroom learning through direct scholarly observation.
